Review about Kwikset 99130-002 SmartCode 913 by Customers
- The Item was incredibly easy to install and has a nice sleek look.
- I purchased this 5 months ago and it has been a problem from the start, for about 5 days, the batteries died within a week.
- It’s very sleek and goes well with the Kwikset handle I got.
- We have only owned this item for two months and the light is already not working but we are beyond the return date.
- Update we have owned it for a year.
- Until the door lock starting going haywire trying to lock and then unlocking over and over until my husband got up to unscrew the lock and take the battery out.
- I’ve installed many door locks, and unfortunately this goes in the column of “Not a fan!
- Got it installed and the tiny screws that hold the cover on the inside of the door are a pain.
- I requested a replacement and there are non available so now I have to go shopping to find a replacement and remove this one to send it back.
- I had to install that screw with my fingers until it was fully finger tight, and was then finally able to finish tightening it with my screwdriver.
- The error light continues to flash red every 10-15 seconds, but the keypad only barely responds sometimes now.
- They work great for awhile, then start glitching, requiring you to basically reinstall them.
- It’s nice that it can be opened with codes but isn’t susceptible to hacks that can occur with WiFi connected locks.
- This lock was a lifesaver initially but we noticed as time went on the lock drained batteries faster and faster. At the end (inconveniently out of the warranty period), right before we replaced it with a Yale smart lock, brand new Duracell AA’s would last literally 2 days. We ran through 16 batteries in less than 2 weeks. We know it was the lock and not a misalignment with the strike plate, because the Yale is 3 months on the same set of Duracell AA’s. I’ve used graphite lubricant, cleaned everything and made sure the deadbolt can be turned by a strongly written letter (more-than butter smooth at this point), and yet it drains batteries like crazy. I’m not sure if this is a bad lock or planned obsolescence but we won’t be going with Kwikset again.
